Getting a new pet

I want a hamster because they are cute. They have big ears and little black noses. A hamster also has very sharp teeth which it uses for chewing food. That could be dangerous. It might try to chew my finger!

I think they eat fruit but I'm not sure. I must learn more about them so that I can look after one well. Hamsters are nocturnal and my parents won’t be happy if it makes lots of noise playing on its wheel at night. My mother thinks that I won’t look after it, but I don’t mind the hard work.

Ocean animals

I really like animals that live in the ocean. I think they are very clever and brave.

I know that penguins don't live in the sea all the time, but they do like to be in the water most of the time. I think they are very cute, and they make me laugh when they walk. A penguin can't fly like other birds because it doesn't have wings. But it does have flippers which it uses to swim very fast. It has to swim fast to catch the tiny fish that try to get away.

There are many animals that eat fish. An elephant seal and a walrus have whiskers that help them find fish. Some fish can change their shape or colour to help them hide from the bigger animals that want to eat them. I think the best camouflage is used by the cuttlefish. It can change from brown to yellow to look like the rocks or sand. Sometimes it even changes its shape so that it can get into any tiny spaces.

When I grow up, I want to be a scientist and study all these strange animals. I want to explore all the oceans in a submarine.
