Why does the tree change throughout the year? (page 23)

Grade 3 Science، summer Earth، equator average، sphere

Some trees adapt to their climate and change with the seasons.

Climate (page 26)

Weather changes all the time, but the climate of an area stays the same. Climate is the pattern of weather in a certain place over a long period of time.

A climate is described by its average temperature and average precipitation. Climates differ based on where they are located on the Earth.

Seasons (pages 27)

Seasons are times of year with different weather patterns.

Winter is the coldest season. There are less hours of daylight. In Spring, the days grow longer and warmer. In Summer the days are their longest. Temperature is the hottest of the year. In Fall (Autumn) days grow shorter. The temperatures are cooler.

Earth and Climate (page 29)

Earth is the shape of a sphere, or ball. Earth spins around an imaginary line through its center called an axis.

Earth’s axis is tilted slightly.

This causes different seasons as Earth orbits around the Sun.

The path the sun appears to move changes with the seasons.

In summer is appears higher in the sky. In winter is appears lower in the sky.

Factors that Affect Climate (page 30)

Water: Being near an ocean or other large body of water affects climate. Oceans keep the land near them warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Height(elevation): How high a place is affects climate. Air temperatures get colder as you go higher in the atmosphere. Mountains: Mountains affect how wet a climate is. As moist air moves toward a mountain it will cool and might form precipitaiton. This might make one side of a mounatin wet with precipitaiton while the other side stays dry.

Climatologists (page 33)

Climatologists are scientists who study the climate. They study weather patterns over a long periods of time. Climatologist research the problem of global climate changes.
